Hey everybody. And welcome back to another episode Toast &. Roast. I'm your co host Jeff and as long as somebody it would judge cool, or am I Georgie?
Georgie 0:22
Are you? Are you? Yeah? Am I you?
Geoff 0:26
Am I am you? Are you me? Oh man, that's a that's an existential crisis for another time. So, you're heading out to Windsor?
Georgie 0:38
Yeah, I take it. Yeah. Where's
Geoff 0:44
Yeah, I made it. I made a joke about like I, how you gonna get there and one of our it’s winds is in London.
Georgie 0:53
How about that that brings to get there?
Geoff 0:56
I mean, in one and a half hours. I don't I don't think it's possible. Like I'll Concord if anyone is old enough to know what Concord is? Is
Georgie 1:07
that like a really fast play? That's,
Geoff 1:10
um, that's the commercial. It's like the commercial plane. It's a commercial plane that flew at, like supersonic speeds. Do people die? Yeah. No, no one died on it. It's just I think it was just too expensive to run and too expensive for non flies. So delays and cost overruns, increased programs. 1.52 point 1 billion pounds in 1976. And to service and 9/21 of January 19 7602 1000. Crash Oh, oh, 194 on the ground who killed? Oh, God. This was the only fatal incident involving Concorde. And then they retired in 2003. Three years later, 27 years after commercial operations began. All but two of the aircraft, two of the 20 aircraft have been preserved or are on display across so yeah, it still wouldn't get that fast. Yeah, it still wouldn't. Still wouldn't get you there. Let's see. It was a comet. Like how fast is Concord? Concord is also I don't think. Yeah, so it's 2190 is 170 kilometers an hour? miles per hour? No, I do. But yeah. In miles. Unit Converter, so that's 31,353 miles per hour. And how far it is? Is it from here to London? Sydney. To London. distance in kilometers
Georgie 3:07
This is taking way too long. Someone just given this
Geoff 3:12
distance in Yeah, Jeff is struggling. Tonight. Okay, okay. The shortest is 10,000. So route teach still five out?
Georgie 3:27
Hey, that's not too bad. Was going to Perth. Five hours, right? Like,
Geoff 3:31
oh, wait, no. Sorry. Eight hours. 1678 hours pure chaos. Pure Chaos anyways. Anyway, and then we realized a lot of suburbs from Australia. Sydney stone, actually, like, really lazily named places in London. Sydney, suburbs, is it? It's like suburbs, right? Yes. Yes. This is Sydney suburbs.
Georgie 4:03
Okay, let's wait. Let's play a game. Wait, is there is there a full list? Like without these pictures? Okay. Yeah. Let's play a game and pick one that you've never fucking heard of. And we'll try and guess where is
Geoff 4:20
I guess bout gold?
Georgie 4:22
Okay, I don't know whether it's in northern region anyway. Pick a different one without hovering over it.
Geoff 4:29
All right. Uh huh. I think elderslie.
Georgie 4:37
I've never, ever heard of that. That sounds to me. That sounds like a beachy place to me. It sounds it sounds like it's, it
Geoff 4:47
sounds like retirement home because it says the word elder.
Georgie 4:51
It just has this vibe of like I am by the beach. And so my guess would be somewhere south and
Geoff 5:01
Maybe I'm gonna go with somewhere in West
Georgie 5:12
south, like past Wollongong no
Geoff 5:20
is where wait was the region aka the region MacArthur
Georgie 5:26
is down southwest, right?
Geoff 5:29
I don't know. Okay. Campbelltown south, southwest, we got it. We got it together. We were like west, south, southwest. But another one of these so people didn't know. So there's what are the names? What names have we stolen? So not really stolen? So those wins. But we also have Cardiff
Georgie 5:56
which is Wales, Beverly Hills.
Geoff 5:59
Not even in London. That we know of
Georgie 6:06
me, I don't even know how to run. Yeah.
Geoff 6:11
Let's have a look. See?
Georgie 6:15
I think I think Campbelltown exists ks
Geoff 6:17
cab. Cambridge. Cambridge. Cambridge Park. We don't have a Cambridge but we do have Cambridge Park. Castle Hill. Sounds really? I know that's asked Chachi btw. Of all of the places that his name in Sydney? Which suburbs in Sydney named off which named after other country
Georgie 6:48
places. Wait, that doesn't sound like it. Oh,
Geoff 6:52
New Town suburbs they derive from new towns are referenced
Georgie 6:57
unsatisfying, what if you say suburbs in Sydney, which match the name of other places around the world. So over Sydney, which share a name with
Geoff 7:11
which share
Georgie 7:14
name with places in other countries
Geoff 7:19
with places See, this is our job. Now. We have to get good at this at using kids will be out of the job. We will be prompt engineers soon. So with places in other countries, right?
Georgie 7:35
Yeah. Did I show you that video I saw of like a AI generated belly dance.
Geoff 7:43
No, I mean, I'm sure it's amazing. No, it
Georgie 7:46
was. It was horrifying. Like, okay, so you can imagine like a ballet dancer. There's a lot of like, movements of the legs and different directions and stuff like that. It's very skilled. And what happened halfway through the video is that it looked like two right legs, but in different directions. completely chaotic. And then there was a third leg. So there was a leg on the ground and then two legs. It was and then it just got increasingly more horrifying.
Geoff 8:26
Nissa whereas here we go. Oh, what? It's so lame. We have a Paris
Georgie 8:35
Cambridge.
Geoff 8:37
Here's some examples. showing us the full list.
Georgie 8:43
Why not? Yeah, give us more like the ones that we thought of right? We I said Liverpool didn't even say Liverpool? Yeah. What was the other one? Yeah. Cardiff. I think cheerfully is one count. is somewhere right? All right.
Geoff 9:03
Choose it go with chyzyk. Okay. So as soon as we show the country, so see if this brings it up more? More. Yeah. Okay. Then another one that examples. I thought if I used a full account, that it would come up with more, but it doesn't. Oh, well, that ends our experiment. The that’s Go is Bondi. Bondi.
Georgie 9:39
Wait, what do you mean, of course, you know, at Bondi is
Geoff 9:43
I mean, no, I mean, like I know I is it share? Sharon name? Bondi Brighton le sands probably. I think Bondi Bondi Junction derived from the world boondi Wait, what Bondi see
Georgie 10:01
Bondi disambiguation at the top of the Arctic
Geoff 10:05
Bondi surname
Georgie 10:11
that's not another location
Geoff 10:14
an open mobile terminal program platform. So can Cambridge we went through the C's? Castle? Castle Cove castle? I bet Oh would exist somewhere or would probably a name Cranebrook also probably name Concord.
Georgie 10:35
Epic sounds like it would exist in the UK.
Geoff 10:40
Yeah, me. No, probably not me anything emus? Probably Fairfield as we learned from chat, GBT Lin Hey glass I get asked. Oh no, that's the Galston God's got cables
Georgie 10:57
cables sounds really British.
Geoff 11:01
Yeah, green Gill.
Georgie 11:04
Gilson. Guilford is a place in. In the UK I'm pretty sure it is. All
Geoff 11:11
right. Is she right everybody?
Georgie 11:15
Gu Gu il Gil Guildford.
Geoff 11:22
I mean, it's referred Guildford it's a path. I'm pretty sure. England, town in England. Here we go. Guildford town in England. We should just look at the map.
Georgie 11:38
Let's do that. Let's get let's go. England. Just find and find shin.
Geoff 11:45
Just find everything Camden. Camden before? Yeah, and Cambridge. Yeah, gardens, hills, whatever. Here we go. Okay. Let's start top left I guess.
Georgie 11:59
l Stan, Stan.
Geoff 12:02
Enfield, Enfield and Chi. Back Back. Hearst. Born Noak Hill. Let's have a look. See. Oxbridge felt Oh Ashford. Ashfield Richmond, of course, Ash Asher wash just wish to share.
Georgie 12:32
Have you seen the beam where someone was pronouncing that and she had the bottle and she said, Roy's sister Sheree. Complaint me. Surrey and this British guy said I beg your pardon. Roy says
Geoff 12:51
I mean it's understandable. The Oh, did I say did I show you the the I think the English how English is fucked? Yeah, okay, I'm gonna I'm going to somehow bring it up. Hey, Croydon.
Georgie 13:09
We have Croydon.
Geoff 13:15
Yeah, man,
Georgie 13:16
I'm looking at this Bexley. Oh, no, I
Geoff 13:18
think I think I send it to you. But anyways, I'm still
Georgie 13:21
looking at the map. I'm like, Hey, we got Bexley as well. And I'm looking at I'm trying to look at the smaller ones to see if there's any Yeah. that I recognize. Kensington, I mean, 100% that's like we have, right. Yeah,
Geoff 13:41
we have Kensington we have Wickham
Georgie 13:50
something called Smile. And and I feel like that's in Brisbane. I guess we can like, doesn't have to be just Sydney.
Geoff 13:59
That's true. We can sue Matt.
Georgie 14:04
Oh, yeah. Like, the other town,
Geoff 14:09
the other ones, man. Anyways, the short and the short and long of the real was like, the guy's trying to teach himself of course, English. And then he switches between the whiteboard and himself. And he's like, Alright, so let's start. Let's start with the simple, simple things. So A W L. And then the it switches to him learning. It's like, owl, and he goes, okay. Oh, w sorry. Aw, oh, W L, and then he goes, Okay, so that means if I put a B in front of it now does it say bow? Bow? No, wrong. It's bowl. Let's go back to basics. So he raised the L and it goes on All right, what does this say? B O W? Bow yeah bow right bow any like he's like, so it's basically a series of like BS O 's W's ELLs? Yeah,
Georgie 15:14
I've seen a video on YouTube that said what if English was phonetically consistent? And it starts with like some really basic was like Apple and whatever orange and then it maintains that sound, even if that's not how you're supposed to pronounce it.
Geoff 15:31
Yeah, I got it like English is so, so ridiculously low like how
Georgie 15:38
do you pronounce that over there on the left s LOUG haitch.
Geoff 15:44
slough, a slow, slow, slow, like dou x mo How
Georgie 15:52
do you know? It's like the Wister sheer thing right? Of course it's like Roy's sister Cherie because yeah, Sister Shire
Geoff 16:03
Yeah, I mean like we have the Shi'a so yeah. I guess it depends on where you learned English from. Because everyone would pronounce certain words like Shaya differently. And if you if you were like, in a different part, then you might Yeah, pronounce it? Sure. And then I don't know. Yeah, Istanbul Yes. Istanbul
Georgie 16:38
Oh, this Guilford. Oh, so we don't have down in the bottom left.
Geoff 16:40
Nice. Nice. Milford. Also there.
Georgie 16:44
Like Milford Sound
Geoff 16:48
Oh, yeah. New Zealand. I don't know if I mentioned Windsor.
Georgie 16:54
Oh my god. It's literally went on the slop or slight.
Geoff 17:02
Winds from
Georgie 17:03
someone from the UK. Please tell us how you how do you pronounce that? Flower?
Geoff 17:08
Yeah. Is it is it when is it actually Windsor? I think they do say it is Windsor. I tend to I tend to err on the side of more American these days. But there are very certain words that I know that are British. And I pronounce it British way.
Georgie 17:27
What are the terms like that annoys me so much? I'm like it says fucking things bro. Just say like,
Geoff 17:35
like themes. Imagine teams like, like how do you how do you pronounce themes as t like as taint teams temps? Yeah. Tim is telling us to miss. And then you could get her May. Her Irma's best friend is her May. It is French, I guess. But you kind of have to like, oh, Botany Bay. In and you have to balance? Yeah, I think the balance is sort of like, do you go for what people generally understand versus the correct pronunciation? Like, do you call it mount Kazi? ESCO? Or do you call it pronounce crushershe?
Georgie 18:30
I think we had this conversation, I think Did you say someone?
Geoff 18:37
Yeah, Polish person corrected my pronunciation of Kasi Jasco. It was it says kushco
Georgie 18:44
Was it was your Polish person or the Polish person I know who said doesn't really matter because most people wouldn't even know the right way. So yeah, I
Geoff 18:52
think yours. I think your polish precedent said it doesn't really matter. But yeah, it's always like hey, botany is bottini.
Georgie 19:05
Like Greenwich. How do you know it's not Greenwich? Greenwich, Greenwich. Great. Yeah.
Geoff 19:10
I mean, if everybody knows that as Greenwich then like, go for
Georgie 19:14
your like blanket thing of saying everybody how do you know? Like, how do you gauge what most people say? Well,
Geoff 19:22
if you if you came if you came across the water across the blue thing, and and you found out that hey, everybody doesn't pronounce it Maka, they pronounced mocha and you you get angry for a second you you realize like Is it is it worth? Is it worth it to continue to say mock up when 90% of the people around you don't know what you're saying and you get the wrong coffee cake?
Georgie 19:53
Yeah. What What does bother me is if somebody would occur record, which I think you said to me that someone did go. Oh, yeah, yeah.
Geoff 20:05
Yeah, yeah. It is like, Why do you have to correct me if you know exactly what I mean? Like, yeah, it's like our terminal. Right? Yeah. To know what you'd like to know. Yeah. Us.
Georgie 20:19
They go Oh, no, no. And I'm like, just you know, you knew what I meant surely. Sure. That's, I mean, you should know what I guess. Even if they could be pronouncing it wrong. I guess he
Geoff 20:32
could phrase it a little more. A little better. Right. You could say. Like, not Oh, do you mean Yeah. But you could also say, Oh, just to clarify, it's the coffee with the chocolate. Like, cuz you you could make it more polite. It's
Georgie 20:50
like, Do we understand each other? Not? Yeah. pronounciation.
Geoff 20:54
Yes, exactly. Yeah, I get this good. This shit. I get this shit all the time when I when I pronounced Japanese words to my Japanese friend. And I mean, Japanese friend is actually like, doesn't care. But but a different friend. Yeah. Yeah, the tire tire guy. But I do I like our other friend. Like, habitually corrects me on my pronounciation and. Okay, now I'm not going to do it just to spice. Spice them I just make all sorts of things
Georgie 21:35
that you frequently pronounce incorrectly. That Oh, I
Geoff 21:41
don't know. I don't can't think of anything. I don't think I've pronounced any words. differently. Yeah, maybe. Think of one now.
Georgie 21:53
I've got to pick this up. I say I say yogurt. Because I'm a fucking idiot. I don't know what I don't know why I just I just hated. I think I hated saying yogurt. It's when you think about it. Yeah. Sure. Have to use your mouth muscles. Yeah.
Geoff 22:17
I guess I guess, Oregon. Oh, yeah.
Georgie 22:20
I think sometimes I do that just for lols. I'm just like, oregano. Yeah. Like you.
Geoff 22:27
Yeah, it like sets everybody off. And then if you do it too much, you forget which one is like the one that doesn't set people off. I like literally forgot the at one point that it was the Oregon or oregano that set people off and I just like I say
Georgie 22:43
tomato as well. That one says Tomato.
Geoff 22:47
Tomato. Oh. And I think people also forget that ketchup and tomato sauce are two different things. And they they try to conflate the two. You
Georgie 22:58
mean like they actually are. I was gonna say they actually two different things
Geoff 23:05
like condiments.
Georgie 23:09
Tomato sauce. I mean, do you mean like it's made of tomatoes, but you don't talk about the ones and pasta?
Geoff 23:18
Like? Yeah, so yeah, I think it's like
Georgie 23:21
pureed tomato, but.
Geoff 23:26
So it's a tomato sauce. It's like a salsa. Yeah, I don't know. It's like a salsa.
Georgie 23:33
More watered down.
Geoff 23:36
I think. I think tomato sauce is made of real tomatoes and ketchup is not versus ketchup. I got to find out now. Because I know that different thing is it's the sugar content. Yeah, there you go. The like, ketchup is just so sweet. Yeah,
Georgie 23:52
got it. Is this the same also
Geoff 23:56
Australia versus catch up money? Okay,
Georgie 24:00
yeah, but catch up minus is such a fucking different thing. Like i I'm willing to bet that a lot of people in the US unless you're like Asian or Asian grocery. You probably don't know what the hell ketchup mayonnaise is.
Geoff 24:14
I didn't even know what the hell's kitchen bonus, like viscous. Sweet. So it's like got your job.
Georgie 24:26
Is it I
Geoff 24:28
think it's the same viscosity.
Georgie 24:32
Viscosity. Now I'd argue it's like honey even like the viscosity ketchup minus is like it's all it's like treacle or something. Right? Isn't it like treacle? Some shit?
Geoff 24:43
Yeah, maybe maybe. I think I actually haven't used ketchup madness in a while.
Georgie 24:52
I love it. I haven't used it at all. My current obsession is Sichuan peppercorn. Soil shit I just put it on every
Geoff 25:06
we had a time where we just put Gottschee Jiang and in like everything we made just to give it a hit of spice and we just like blew our heads off at the first because we just put a half a teaspoon. Just absolutely decimated it
Georgie 25:22
if we have an audience what is your? Yeah,
Geoff 25:25
was Yeah, to cause obsession with
Georgie 25:29
everything. It was oil for me for a bit I was like fuck yeah, literally I made this is not even correct. I just sees a salad with
Unknown Speaker 25:38
a consistent
Georgie 25:41
sesame so it's not even
Geoff 25:47
so I also I also have a friend who made this joke and I always make it now, but they anytime, anytime someone puts the wrong this is on the on the wrong syllable. Okay, yeah, what
Georgie 26:06
is it? Like if I said I can't even Yeah, pen riff instead or something like that? No,
Geoff 26:12
no, like, Well, anytime some makes the wrong. Like what's what's a strong emphasis on the wrong syllable? I can't remember. But anyways, the joke is like, Oh, you make you put the wrong and fast
Georgie 26:34
isn't Hey, so I don't know about this, but I sort of picked up on it in a real or something. Where I think Gen Z or Gen Alpha does that on purpose. Like, like embarrassing? You Yeah. I actually sometimes do that. Like on purpose. Like, do you ever phonetically pronounce words incorrectly? Like on purpose for the laws
Geoff 27:03
to get your point across? Yeah, like to just like highlight the the hikes
Georgie 27:11
Nick did this around? He said do you want to do any higest why we like
Geoff 27:20
I mean, I mean, I do I do Colet anti J
Georgie 27:25
i I've never had anyone
Geoff 27:32
like me, right.
Georgie 27:36
I guess like your name do you off?
Geoff 27:37
Yeah, that that's that's the thing that people do. Like they make the wrong advice. Some of
the you also be like, Oh, gee orgy? Yeah, no, it doesn't actually work out. Very well.
Georgie 28:00
Do your G might not like to not flat but
Geoff 28:05
G orgy just to highlight that your name has the word that we like. You just embody that part of your name. Here we go. Let's let's categorize probably
Georgie 28:31
watching Kotla has got to be in the UK. It's
Geoff 28:33
a name. It's Macquarie. Macquarie is definitely in the in the UK region. We were watching. We're watching Amazing Race Canada right now. Yeah. If you're not familiar with, you're not familiar with the concept of Mason race, where have you been? But essentially 12 teams, I think they come they come down from like 24 teams to 12 teams. Kind of race with race against each other completing challenges. Normally, I think the standard when it first started was they go around the world in some capacity. Like they visit multiple countries, they do challenges like, here's a recipe you have to actually buy the ingredients for for this recipe at this large market. And the first team that gets that passes the test gets the next clue. And you go clue after clue after clue. And then the winner gets $250,000 or something. Prize prize money. So usually this involves a lot of transportation, a lot of getting lost teams having to do team work things and failing or getting pissed off at each other. But the Amazing Race Canada is actually kind of special because they don't actually leave Canada They only travel around Canada, and their Canadian teams are traveling around Canada
Georgie 30:11
Canada, Canadian,
Geoff 30:17
Canadian, and Canada to Nadia, Nadia The thing is that it's the most sponsored one of them all. They they have names for everything like they have, they have to use Chevrolet trucks to travel, because it's sponsored by Chevrolet. They have an energy drink at every pitstop. And there's just brand new, every bit so fully sponsored. And then they have assists, which let you shortcut your way through a certain challenge. And it's brought brought to you by deja den, which is I don't know, company is any case. But what they do that is actually kind of interesting is the first person to reach the end of a leg, which is usually three challenges, gets there wins $10,000 and a paid trip for them and their partner to a part of the world. So Paris, like fat fat like Paris and like Malaysia maybe, and things like that. So instead of making them travel across the world, they give them prizes to take holidays across the world. And I think that's kind of better. nicer. Not really very interesting to to the viewers. But yeah. In other cases, though, we had like, was Australia, amazing rest of Australia, I'm raising the rest of America. Anyways, there was an Asian, Asian pet like a, like a couple. They're married. Husband and wife. They went there Vietnamese, they went to Vietnam. And they they got they got they had home to home. Home country advantage. They knew the language they
Georgie 32:21
shouldn't be like,
Geoff 32:24
but they got eliminated that round. Oh. I mean, they just fail. They just they were just too, too slow. Okay, that's the that's the whole thing. If you're the first person to reach the end of the leg, you win. And then the last person gets eliminated. And somehow they had home hometown advantage.
Georgie 32:47
I reckon they just slide and chill and eat some food to enjoy the trip and be like, you know, what, if we don't win, we can just stay here, Jim.
Geoff 33:04
But yeah, I think, I think yeah, the types of challenges where you're like, oh, yeah, you got the desert press, and you're gonna win this desert challenge. And it's just puts child foot swim way more pressure. Yeah. They didn't. They did another travel thing in Malaga chef when they were they sent everyone to Hong Kong. And there was, there was actually someone from Hong Kong, in Malaysia on the MasterChef team. But they didn't win a single challenge in Hong Kong, which is super embarrassing. But, yeah, winning master chef is actually a bad thing, I think. Well, it just so happens that most of the master chef that we know, like Poe, perhaps or Adam Liao? One, you don't know who Poe? Yeah, no. She's never one nostalgia. But she's more popular than the winner. And I think that comes to maybe a lot of other challenges. Oh, and that's all we have time. You gotta, you gotta catch a flight to Windsor. So you can follow us on nothing. But you can email us at toastroastpod@pm.me you can find
